Oasis and Molina Healthcare presented Molina Winter Break Student Book Giveaway for Oasis Tutoring Volunteers

On the afternoon of December 6, 2017, more than 125 volunteers received approximately 600 free books for the Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program from Molina Healthcare and EcoMediaCBS. Over the next few weeks, an additional 600 books will be distributed to tutors who were not in attendance on the 6th.

Molina Healthcare, CBS EcoMedia and Oasis Albuquerque teamed up before the winter break to provide books to the Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program. Oasis volunteers will then give these books to elementary school students who are participating in the program in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Bernalillo public schools. Students receive two complimentary books to keep for their own personal library.

Oasis tutors mentor students in grades K-4, promoting reading skills and boosting self-confidence and self-esteem for an hour each week. Each tutor is placed with one or more students during the school year. Oasis has approximately 300 volunteers in the community helping more than 400 students in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and Bernalillo Public Schools. The Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program also has a 3000 book in-house library. In addition to the book giveaway, Molina Healthcare donated an additional 300 titles to the library.

Additionally, Dr. Paul Weiss, the Oasis Institute’s new President from the national office in St. Louis, was introduced and welcomed. This event also honored and introduced Molina Healthcare as a new supporter of the Oasis Intergenerational Tutoring Program. The Hoover Middle School Choir, led by Theresa Sanderson, performed a medley of holiday songs.
